Ümraniye Municipality's "I'm safe at home" project for the elderly

The project, implemented in collaboration with the Women and Family Services Directorate and the Disaster Affairs Directorate, is part of the "Age Actively" services program and covers elderly citizens registered with the unit who require support. The one-on-one project aims to reduce the risks that older adults may face in potential disasters and emergencies and to raise awareness.
The municipality made the following statement:
The training emphasizes that disasters have a greater impact on the elderly, those with chronic illnesses, and those with disabilities than on other individuals, and emphasizes the importance of pre-disaster preparation. In one-on-one training, the specific needs of older individuals are identified, and spatial and regional planning is implemented accordingly.
The program includes briefings, drills, and practical demonstrations on disasters such as earthquakes, fires, and floods. Participants are informed about precautions that can be taken before a disaster, as well as what to do during and after it.
This project aims to integrate social services and aid with disaster management. The project aims to minimize the impact of potential disasters on older adults and allow them to return to their normal lives more quickly.
